VLC Media Player : Convert and play your audio and video files for free

VLC Media Player is a free , open source video and audio player . It plays everything like files , discs ( DVD ? CD ? VCD) . I am sharing it with you because i know many of you have problems viewing some videos in certain players . It happened to me many times i get a video in a certain version and when i play it in a different player the result is either it doesn't work at all or the video quality is low . It can  sometimes be embarrassing when you are sharing a video in class or in a conference and then you realize that the quality of your video is not as good as it was in your player at home . Now with VLC Media Player the problem is solved and no need to worry .

Subit is a great application that lets you subtitle your images and create your own image slideshow . Subit is easy to use with no registration . If you want to add explanations to your images or create a personalized slideshow then head over to Subit . I have downloaded the app from Softsea website and used it to check if it is working and the result is : Subit is really great .

Strike is a great ‘to do list’ making tool .It is very simple and easy to use . I am adding this application to the list i am making here about To Do List tools we can use in education . I have already covered some tools like : Squareleaf , Wipee List, Ta-dalist, Todoist . All of these tools can work perfectly well in education .

Ta-dalist : The Web’s Easiest To do list Tool .

Ta-dalist is a simple tool that lets you create to do lists for yourself and even for others . This tool is very simple to use and completely free . I want to include it here because i know educators might need it in their daily work . You do not need to keep your lists in sticky notes to hang on the door of your fridge or use paid applications online . Ta-dalist offers you all the option you need to keep your to do lists neat and accessible everywhere with internet connection.

Sticky Screen : Set to do list items in your homepage

Sticky Screen is one of the easiest online to do list tool . It is my favorite tool of them all . Sticky Screen is very easy to use . What sets this application apart from all the other to do lists management apps i have covered here is that you can set it as your homepage and whenever you opened a new tab in your browser , your to do list items will just pop up at your face . No way that you  can ignore or forget about them . This is really perfect for us in education . We can use it to remind of us of tasks we need to do or assignments and homework we want to deliver to our students or set it as a reminder of meetings we will have or simply gather all of these items in one page . I am using it as my home page and honestly speaking , hasn’t it been for this tool many tasks will have been waiting there forever . I have loads and loads of things to do and i just keep forgetting about some of them because of stress of work but now i have to face it , things stare at me telling me hey you have stored us here so get us out of this page please .

Todoist and Wedoist : Individual and group task management tools

Todoist and wedoist are  twin websites that do the same job . Todoist is a task management for individuals and Wedoist is for groups . Both of the tools are easy to use and require only a 20 seconds registration . I have already covered another tool called Ta-dalist which is also dead simple to use to create to do lists but these twin services i am talking about to day are much more flexible and have more options than Tada-list .

snisnip : shorten , crop and share videos

SnipSnip is a great video editing tool. I find it much better then many of the other video tools. SniSnip allows you to snip parts of video to share with your students . No need to play the whole video if you just want a specific part in it .I have already talked about two other video editing applications that can do the same work as SniSnip but are slightly different . The purpose is to sharpen students minds and improve their ability to think outside the box. Gymnasium for Brain provides intelligent puzzles together with their solutions , patterns , Speed Math and kid’s corner ;all of which are dedicated to the wellness of the mind . I would really recommend this site for educators dealing with kids .

Bee PDF is a free hosting and sharing website . It allows its users to upload their PDFs and share them with others . I have always looked for such a website where i can get safe URLs for my PDFs and now here it is ; very simple and easy to use . Bee PDF does not charge you with any fee and it is completely free . Once you upload you PDFs into Bee PDF then you can use the generated URL to share with others and let them access your docs or you can use the embed code to include your PDFs into your website, wiki or blog . Bee PDF allows you to read and browse through PDFs published by others .

Lucid Chart is a flowcharts and mind map making tool . It looks similar to the other tools i have collected here under the Mind Mapping Tools tab  . The only difference here is that Lucid Chart offers many more design options then most of the others .

Google Documents : Simpler File Upload .

Google Documents is a great application issued by Google . I have already covered the different uses of this app in education in a post entitled Google docs in education . Today i am adding some extra services that Google have just updated . As you probably know ; Google doc offers you an online storage capacity of 1024 MB and you can pay to have more . This virtual storage repertoire allows you to download a decent amount of docs and access them wherever you are . I personally depend on it a lot because i hate memry sticks and USBs .

A couple of months ago Google introduced the new functionality of Drop and Drag making it easy for you to drag any document from your desktop right into the upload box and start uploading it immediately . No more complications , uploading has never been this easy with Google Doc and it takes only a few seconds to upload your stuff . wow what a great time saver !
The second functionality is the Folder Upload . Google Doc has added Folder Upload via the new upload menu in the latest version of Chrome , Firefox and Safari . You just need to install a small applet into your browser to start using this service .

Lastly when you upload a document using the drop down menu a window will show up in the bottom right of your documents list and show upload progress. Picture
Once files are uploaded, they will appear in your documents list within seconds. You can also share them from the pop-up. Uploaded files go into the currently selected collection and have visibility set to private unless the collection is shared.
