YouTube Released Three Great Channels for Teachers,Educators, Students

Youtube is the video platform number one online. Whenever you want to look for videos online Youtube instantly comes into your mind. Even Google search engine includes Youtube videos in its search results which means that the importance of this media outlet far exceeds what you ever think.

YouTube is very important in education and anyone who has been following what I blog about in the section called YouTube for Teachers would clearly know this fact. Both students and teachers are having constant recourse to its content but unfortunately there are some misconveniences with including materials straight from there. Sometimes videos are accompanied with vulgar language in the comments below it and sometimes  improper videos showing nudity are displayed in the featured playlists on the right side.

 We do not want to subject our students to such hazards that is why many developers have created tools to help you control what to display and what not. I have covered several web tools that can help you do that such as , Quiet Tube, ViewPure, EmbedPlus, Safeshare TV, and Youtube Safe . Anyway, today I am intoruding you to three official Youtube channels that are made specifically for teacher and educators. These channels belong to Youtube and contain safe and student friendly materials that you will definately like to explore.



1- Youtube for Schools

This is a channel Youtube has created to help educators access thousands of free high quality educational videos in a very secure and controlled learning environment. It requires a sign up or you can use your School's Google account to log in and if you do not  have a Google account for your school you can sign up for free one here.

This is another educational channel created by Youtube to provide educationally relevant videos. It has content organized and classified according to different topics. there are seven topics namely: Elementary, Middle School, High School: Algebra, High School: Functions, High School Geometry, High School: Number and Quantity, and High School: Statistics and Probability.
 Each topic has a wide range of videos.

This is my favourite one for it has videos pertaining to different categories, there are lectures, tutorials, documentaries and so forth. These are the main topics it features:

This service relies on viewership data and top video curators on the web . It also displays a general cultural and media trends via the issues and musings people find relevant. YouTube Instant Search Videos in Real Time ( New Service )

Google  Instant search technology  has been now extended to other products other than Google Search. There is now a service called YouTube Instant which is a great site that allows its users to search across the vast YouTube video database in real-time. YouTube Instant was created by Feross Aboukhadijeh, a computer science student from Standford. One day after its release, YouTube Instant attracted millions of visitors and a huge media coverage from the tech press and the blogosphere .

I have been invistigating its features and found it extremely user friendly. It is totally differnt from YouTube. The homepage is pretty simple and it has nothing but a search box where you can type your query.. When you type in a search term , YouTube Instant pulls in the most popular YouTube video for that word and starts playing it immediately. It also shows the next 5 videos just below the one which is playing.

With the release of YouTube for Schools, YouTube has finally joined the bandwagon of  websites promoting educational content. It has been a major concern for teachers all over the world that the main resource of videos on the internet is most of the times banned in schools. The inappropriate content that accompanies videos in YouTube together with the mature subject matter and distractive ads found  in most of YouTube pages have raised a red flag for any pedegaogical use of this video platform in formal classroom settings.It is true that there are many free web tools that can be used to overrun this problem but the thing is most of the schools have denied access to it.

Educators now can breathe a sigh of relief. Youtube for Schools has been designed specifically to tend to their digital needs. It features educational videos from several renowned educational partners  (around 600 in total) includingSmithsonian, TED, Steve Spangler Science, and Numberphile. And instead of featuring irrelevant videos or indecent content on the playlists, Youtube for Schools features exclusive playlists of free educational videos. Now that mobile devices are ubiquitous, some people still find it hard to download their favourite music or audio files. This is due to the fact that  most of the portable devices do not support some of the video formats available online now. The answer is quite obvious, Youtube is number 1 video resource for internet users according to the latest statistics in this field. Grockit Great Social Interaction around YouTube Videos

Grockit is  a great web tool for educators. It allows its users to create different tasks around YouTube videos. We all know the importance of YouTube as a huge source of multimedia clips that teachers can easily share and embed in their lesson planning. I have covered several tools about YouTube in  a special section called YouTube Tools but I have not seen as much important a tool as this one under study now.

Grockit is very easy to use and has a user friendly interface. It lets its users search for a YouTube video and once found, they can then both watch the video and use the right side panel to write their questions or comments. They can then share this page using a generated URL with their students or colleagues.

Grockit allows for greater interaction around youtube videos. Students can use it to review video materials and add their questions or time them to specific points in the video. I think that teachers need to try this tool and see by themselves how practically useful it is.

A Cleaner Youtube is a great tool for educators. It is a browser extension that works with chrome, Firefox, and Safari. This extension works in the same way as the other Youtube Tools i have covered here for they all delete distractive features around videos and make them more attractive. Among the distractive features that annoy the viewer especially , in our case, students are advertisements, suggested videos, related videos, and comments. Sometimes we might come across a very good video that we want to share with our students but when we look to the right or under it we see vulgar language , inappropriate content or even nudity scenes all of which are not healthy for an educational milieu like classroom . As a solution to this, many applications and software's have been developed for the sole purpose of liberating Youtube videos from all these distractive features rendering it , thus, more student-friendly.
